Min första text för The Plastics webzine har publicerats nu så går in och gilla den HÄR.

 

 

I'm doing my internship as a professional groupie! It's kind of surreal that I'm actually doing an internship for a university in Sweden as a professional groupie. I started thinking about what led me to this point. When I was 23, I just quit my education because it didn't feel right. I moved back to my father's house and started working in the same restaurant as my mother. I didn't know what I wanted to do or become. I felt really lost after my education didn't work out and I knew I had to start over again, but I didn't know where to begin.

 But that summer, I went to a meet and greet and met my favorite rock star that I had been listening to since I was a child, Meat Loaf. When we got there, a women greeted us and showed us around backstage and I was so jealous and thought she had the best job ever. Then when it was time to meet Meat Loaf, he asked me what I was doing for work? I looked a little hesitant and told him that I was working in a restaurant, but didn't want to make a profession of it. He looked at me holding his hand on my shoulder and told me, "Oh, you're like me? You haven't figured out what you want to do when you grow up?" And I said, "Yes exactly! I'm just like you."  From that moment, I didn't feel so lost anymore. I knew that I wasn't alone in my indecision and that I still had time to figure it out. I still didn't know what to do with my life, but I had gotten an idea. I couldn't really stop thinking about the woman with the best job ever and decided that I wanted to work with rock bands and music, too. That's where my passion was, my will to live. I always loved to go to concerts and always felt more comfortable hanging out with rock stars than other people.

 A couple of years later I started studying Cultural Leadership. I still didn't know what I wanted to do more than work with music and this education gave me everything I needed to know to do that. When I had been studying for about two years, a classmate and I started to talk about our essays and what to write about. I had an idea to write about groupies and she thought that was perfect for me. My classmate said that a career as a groupie would be perfect for me. But you can't work as a groupie... or can you? I started searching on the Internet after famous groupies to write about in my essay and stumbled upon Lexa Vonn and the Plastics. There it was, the thing my classmate and I had been talking about, working as a groupie.

 Being a professional groupie working with music and rock bands felt so right! I've always been fascinated with groupies and the life they live. With the essay I wrote, I had to study the groupie world and I got more and more fascinated with it. Every movie and book about groupies made me start dreaming of a life I didn't have but wanted. Now I'm here and are doing my internship for Lexa Vonn as a Plastics Professional Groupie and I finally found what I want to do. It feels so right for me and I'm happy to not be lost anymore. In two weeks I will meet Meat Loaf again and after five years I will be able to tell him that I finally figured out what I want to become when I grow up.

 

Det har lyssnats på bra musik och fotats snygga rockstjärnor och imorgon kommer allt upp här. Så missa inte att gå in här och kolla imorgon kväll när alla bilder är fixade. Vem vill inte se bilder på Danger Avenue, Siphon fuel och The Scams när de rockar loss på en scen? Nä man måste vara idiot om det inte är lockande.

Hoppas ni är redo för jag är i Göteborg och imorgon blir det releaseparty på Sticky fingers. Men innan dess händer en massa skoj som jag kommer berätta om i min turnédagbok sen. Min Lomography fisheye kamera är med för att dokumentera allt så jag är redo för äventyr.

 

Det är inte bara professionella groupies som kan bli medlemmar på the Plastics hemsida utan även musiker och personer som jobbar inom musikbranschen. Då the Plastics finns på flera olika ställen i världen är det väldigt smidigt för band att vara medlemmar och på så sätt komma i kontakt med Plastictjejer som finns i andra länder. Då kan de hjälpa till med promotion om ni skulle ut på turné i ett annat land där ni inte är så kända. Vi finns för att stödja band och hjälpa dem i deras karriär så även om man inte vill vara en groupie men bara älskar musik och konserter kan man bli medlem för att visa sitt stöd. Som sagt är the Plastic en förening för professionella groupies och jag har precis startat upp en svensk systerförening. Det fanns ingen i Sverige innan så jag är den första och helt själv. Så jag letar efter fler medlemmar som vill göra mig sällskap. The Plastics jobbar eller vill jobba inom musikbranschen med att stödja band. Detta kan man göra genom rockjournalistik, fotografering, promotion, modelljobb med mera. The Plastics hemsida är en musiktidning, modellsida och nätverkssida i ett. Alla kan bli medlemmar i The Plastics, musiker, groupies och personer från musikbranschen men det är endast kvinnor som kan bli Plastic groupies. Så har du en dröm om att få jobba med rockband och att få vara en del av ett underbart systerskap så hör av dig till mig. Alla är välkomna och man behöver inte vara utbildad då vi finns till för att lära varandra. Jag måste erkänna att jag är lite rädd. Rädd för att fördomar om groupies kommer göra att folk tycker att jag är en idiot och slampa som väljer att ha den titeln. Att vara en professionell groupie är enligt mig skitcoolt och det jag hela tiden velat vara men inte vetat hur jag ska bli. Jag kommer ihåg att jag och en klasskompis snackade om c-uppsatsen och vad man skulle skriva om och jag sa att jag ville skriva om groupies. Vårat samtal gled sen in på att det hade varit perfekt för mig att jobba som en groupie. Det var ju enbart önsketänkande för inte fan kan man jobba som groupie. Men jag hade då iallafall bestämt mig för att fördjupa mig i groupievärlden när jag skulle skriva min c-uppsats. Så jag började googla och hittade Lexa Vonn och the Plastics som är professionella groupies. Enda sen den dagen har jag lite känns att jag hittat hem, jag vet vad jag vill bli när jag blir stor och vad jag ska satsa på. Jag kan seriöst bli och jobba som en professionell groupie. Jag har aldrig känt att jag vill göra en karriär för jag har aldrig vetat vad jag vill bli men nu vet jag det. Då kommer problemet att jag känner att det är ett dåligt val för att folk kan ha fördomar om det. Jag borde ju bara skita i det för det är mitt liv och så länge jag inte gör något som jag mår dåligt av så är ju allt bra. Men det stör mig ändå lite att folk kommer döma mig på grund av sin okunskap och deras fördomar. Men det fina med the Plastics är att deras uppgift, bortsett från att stödja band även är att utrota de fördomar som finns om groupies. Tillsammans kan vi plastic tjejer som finns över hela världen få tillbaka ordets innebörd till vad den en gång var. Så jag tänkte starta precis just nu med att upplysa er som klickar sig in på min blogg vad det är the Plastics står för och arbetar för med sin organisation.

The Plastics is an international organization, sisterhood, school and club for groupies. We are a sorority in a sense. Think of a rock n' roll version of The Red Hat Society or The Girl Scouts. Our elite chapters spread all over the world and consist of both groups of girls working together and/or girls working on their own under The Plastics name.  We believe we are one big family! Our activities focus around everything that has to do with music and alternative fashion. The Plastics' main sport is reviewing live bands (both local and national acts), conducting interviews, photographing concerts,  hosting, organizing, and promoting events. It also includes forming friendships and personal relationships with rock stars and others in the industry. Plastics founder Lexa Vonn, a former publicist and current rock journalist, photographer, and promoter has written a handbook containing advice on getting backstage, approaching celebrities, and tips for breaking into journalism, promotions, and creatively supporting musicians of all genres and success levels. Our lesser activities include rock n’ roll pin-up modeling, fashion design, go-go dancing, acting, performance art, band image consultation (we have licensed hair dressers, makeup artists and clothing designers amongst our members), and music publicity. The Plastics have been featured on WE’s “Secret Lives of Women” and “The Tyra Banks Show”. They were also featured in the Pamela Des Barres book, “Let's Spend the Night Together: Backstage Secrets of Rock Muses and Supergroupies.” 

The Plastics were originally created in 2005 by Vonn and three of her rock chick friends, to bring back the spirit of groupie chic past. They were inspired by the social risks and free-spirited ways of girls living in the rock n' roll world in the 1960's. In a time where the music industry has become controlled and devoid of any real rebellion, they decided to create a social clique here in Hollywood, CA based on and dedicated to groups of girls that create their own social rules and norms rather than succumbing to those set for them by others. Reminiscent of power cliques portrayed in your favorite teen movies, we are a living satire of ourselves. We are worshippers of art and music and live as our own character creations. It was a good two years the first Plastics spent trying to change the ever-growing conservatism and dullness of pop culture as they gallivanted around the clubs dressed in lingerie, go-go danced onstage to their friends' bands, and scored their own column in a local newspaper, the now out of print Rock City News.  The Plastics also booked and hosted their own monthly club event at On the Rox, above the world famous Roxy Theater on the Sunset Strip for a little over a year.  Today, The Plastics are an ongoing movement and subculture.  From groupies who were living the life before we existed to new ones just starting out, we embrace everyone who shares our similar beliefs and passions who are currently, or aspire to work in the music industry. The Plastics accept groupies of all ages, sizes, races, sexual orientations, and experience levels.

So, what do The Plastics believe? We believe in coloring the world with lipstick and glitter, we believe in life, we believe in giving credit where credit is due and honoring the artists and rock stars that inspire us to admire them and co-create reality with them. We believe in ourselves. We believe in celebrating the beautiful and astounding creations and statements of our mentors and friends. We believe in using inspiration to create new art. We believe that we are all canvases of expression.  We are muses. We are mistresses. We are mothers of invention. You don’t have to be musically inclined or be a master painter to be an artist, you just have to be creative, live and love your own and the creations of others.  Rock n' Roll is our religion and our lifestyle.

Groupies have gotten a bad name in recent years, mostly due to the fact that most people don't understand what a groupie really is. We are not the girls trading blow jobs for backstage passes or posting about our sexual experiences with rock stars on websites and "penis charts." We are also not the up and coming models, actresses, or porn stars looking to land a celebrity in hopes of furthering our own careers. These types of girls are called "starfuckers." Real groupies do what they do for the love of music. We are the girls that inspired such films as "Almost Famous." We are the girls for whose passion for music runs so deep that we desire to be a part of it on as many levels as possible. Do some of us have sexual relationships with the rock stars we love? We sure do! But we do so with mutual respect. Groupies are the girls that will promote you when you are new and struggling, that will drive 6 hours in extreme weather conditions to see your show, and that will be there to lend a breast to cry on when your current model/actress/porn star dumps you. Our love is unconditional and we are there to help out any way we can. Art, love, friendship, and sex are spiritual experiences to us. We are there because our lives were changed. We are there for the love of music and the religion of rock n' roll!!!! The term “groupie” was originally coined by a British journalist in the 1960’s and meant nothing more than, “the girls with the band.” And that’s what we are… sisters, lovers, friends, promoters, supporters.  We are the secretaries of music history and  we are here to build your legend... and our own.

Idag startar jag min praktik för Los Angeles Plastics som en professionel groupie. Jag gör min praktik under Kulturledarprogrammet på Linnéuniversitetet. Jag har inriktning mot musikvetenskap inom utbildningen och har skrivit en C-uppsats om vad det är som driver unga kvinnor att bli groupies. Jag är nu ute på praktik innan jag tar examen till sommaren. Jag kommer till hösten skriva en D-uppsats och på så sätt få en magisterexamen inom musikvetenskap. Min praktik för LA Plastics går ut på att stötta band som försöker ta sig fram inom musikbranschen. Jag gör detta genom att fota band och konserter, recensera konserter och skivor samt skriva reportage och intervjuer. Det jag skriver kommer publiceras här på bloggen samt The Plastics webzine. The Plastics består av runt 100 professionela groupies runt om i hela världen. Jag är då den första svenska plastic groupien och kommer inom de närmsta dagarna starta upp den svenska systerföreningen.
